Introducing Chervil: the web comes to you

ยท2 min readยทRod Trent

For thirty years the browser has handed us the same thing: a box, ten blue links, and a to-do list. You do the searching. You open the tabs, skim the pages, reconcile the contradictions, and assemble an answer in your head. The browser just fetches; the work is yours.

Chervil flips that around. Instead of ten links, you talk to Sprig โ€” an assistant that searches the live web and then composes a single, self-contained, image-rich page built for your exact question. When you actually want a real site โ€” your bank, your email, a web app โ€” Sprig opens it live. Synthesized pages when synthesis is better; the real web when the real web is the point.

What that looks like

  • Composed pages, not link lists. Ask a question, get one beautiful page grounded in live search, with its sources shown.
  • Living pages. Tell a page to stay current and Chervil re-grounds it on a schedule, notifying you the moment something changes.
  • A trust layer. Every page can show its work and one-click verify its own claims against reputable live sources.
  • Deep Dive. A two-phase research pipeline that produces a long, fully-cited report โ€” and vets for disinformation as it goes.
  • Spaces. Collect pages into a topic workspace and let Sprig synthesize across everything you've gathered.

Built to be trusted

An agentic browser holds your keys and can act on your behalf, so "trust me" isn't good enough. Chervil is open source โ€” read the code, run it, contribute. Authority doesn't live in the model's reasoning; a deterministic layer governs every action it's allowed to take. And it's bring-your-own-AI: Claude, OpenAI, Grok, Gemini, Azure, or fully local Ollama, with your keys encrypted on your own machine.

Building in public

Chervil is young and moving fast. It's an alpha, and we're shipping in the open โ€” new providers, a hands-free wake word, a packaged installer, and more landing regularly. This blog is where we'll write about what we're building and why.

Download Chervil for Windows and talk to the web instead of searching it.
