The Chervil app runs on your computer. Chervil Chat puts Sprig in your pocket: a hosted, chat-only Chervil that runs in any phone's browser, with nothing to install.
Open getchervil.com/chat, sign in, and you're talking to Sprig — the same assistant that powers the desktop app, grounded in live web search, wherever you happen to be.
Add it to your home screen
Chervil Chat is a Progressive Web App, so it installs like a native app without an app store:
- iPhone / iPad (Safari): tap the Share button → Add to Home Screen.
- Android (Chrome): tap the ⋮ menu → Install app (or Add to Home Screen).
Launched from the home-screen icon, it opens full-screen — no browser chrome, no address bar — and looks and feels like an app you downloaded.
Long-press the icon (on Android) for quick actions: New chat, Talk to Sprig, and Photo chat jump straight to what you want.
The Android home-screen widget
On Android, there's also a home-screen widget — a compact pill you can drop right onto your home screen, so Sprig is one tap away without even opening an app. It has three controls:
- The Sprig chip → opens a chat.
- The photo button → jumps straight to a photo question (the picker opens for you).
- The voice button → starts talking to Sprig right away.
It comes with the Chervil Chat Android app, which wraps getchervil.com/chat as an installable app that opens full-screen — no address bar, no browser chrome. Install the app, then long-press your home screen → Widgets → Chervil Chat and drag the Sprig pill wherever you like.
What it does
- Chat with Sprig. Ask anything and get a conversational reply, the same as chat mode in the desktop app.
- Live web search. When your question needs something current — news, prices, scores, weather — Sprig searches the web and lists its sources under the answer.
- Talk instead of typing. Tap the 🎤 mic and dictate your message — the words appear as you speak, then send. (Available where your browser supports on-device speech recognition, which is best on Android Chrome.)
- Send a photo. Tap 📷 to attach a picture and ask about it — "what is this?", "what does this label say?", "is this plant healthy?". Sprig looks at the image and answers.
- Pick up where you left off. Your conversation is saved on your device, so closing and reopening the app brings it right back.
- Tap a source to open it in a new tab.
- + New starts a fresh conversation (and clears the saved one).
It's deliberately just chat: no tabs, no composed pages, no browser. When you want the full experience — composed pages, agents, your reading history, the everyday browser — that lives in the desktop app.
Send a chat to your desktop
Sometimes a question you start on your phone turns into real work. Tap ↗ To desktop in the chat header and Chervil hands the whole conversation to the desktop app: the next time Chervil is in focus on your computer, it opens the chat in a tab — ready to keep going, or to compose into a full page.
It travels through your account, so both ends need to be the same account: you're signed in on the phone, and on the desktop you've set your publish token (Settings → Publishing). Nothing is public — the handoff is a private, one-time delivery to your own machine.
What you need
- A Chervil account. Sign in with the same account you use everywhere else on getchervil.com.
- Chervil Pro. Chervil Chat runs on Chervil's own managed AI (you don't bring a key), so it's part of Pro. If you're not Pro yet, the page shows you how to upgrade.
Because it runs on Chervil's managed AI, there's nothing to configure — no API keys, no provider setup. Sign in on any phone or browser and it just works.
Privacy
Your conversations are sent to Chervil's managed model to answer, the same way the desktop app's chat mode sends your message to your AI provider. Chervil Chat does not have access to your desktop app's private reading history or your local data — those never leave your machine.
