You already have a feed reader. Your Feeds isn't trying to be a better one — it's the part of Chervil that reads your feeds for you and tells you what matters. You subscribe to the sources you follow; Chervil pulls them quietly in the background; and then you ask for a briefing in plain language.
Everything here lives under Library → Feeds.
Subscribe
Add a feed from the Feeds section of the Library — paste a site's address and Chervil finds its feed. It handles:
- RSS / Atom feeds, blogs, and newsletters (Substack, Ghost, Beehiiv…)
- Podcasts (paste the show's RSS URL)
- YouTube channels and playlists (public RSS — no API key)
- Subreddits
No accounts, no API keys. You can also subscribe from any page you're visiting: when a site offers a feed, a 📡 appears in the toolbar — one click subscribes. Or right-click anywhere and choose Check this page for RSS feeds, which finds one even on sites that don't advertise it. Because Chervil is the browser, it sees the feed without an extension or a permission prompt.
Bring your feeds over
Switching from Feedly, Inoreader, FeedBro, or anything else? Export your subscriptions as an OPML file from your old reader, then Library → Feeds → ⤒ Import OPML. Chervil brings the whole list over — folders and all — skips anything you're already subscribed to, and defaults a big list to a once-a-day pull so hundreds of feeds don't hammer your machine.
Get briefed
This is the point of the whole feature. Two ways:
- Just ask, in the sidebar. "Summarize the feeds in the Entertainment folder," "what's new in my Tech feeds," "brief me on the News folder." Sprig pulls what arrived and composes a briefing — grouped by theme, ranked by what matters, every item linked back to its source. It's your own sources, not a web search. Clicking a feed item opens it in a new tab, so the summary stays your home base.
- Schedule it. Add the built-in PulseKeeper agent (👤 Agents → starter agents)
and give it a schedule — say, 8am daily. It composes a digest of everything that came
in overnight and notifies you when it's ready. Point an agent at one folder with the
feedFolder:setting and it briefs only that folder.
Organize
- Folders. Feeds group under collapsible folder headers. Assign or change a feed's folder from its ⚙ settings, type one when subscribing, or let an OPML import bring them over. A folder is also how you scope a briefing — "summarize my Tech feeds."
- Per-feed retention. Each feed decides how long to keep its items — from 1 day to forever — instead of one blanket cutoff. Keep a busy subreddit for a day and a favorite blog for a year.
- Pull interval. How often Chervil checks each feed, from every 30 minutes to daily.
- Bulk cleanup. Hit Select to checkbox any or all feeds and remove them at once — handy after a big import. Deleting a feed clears its stored items too.
Every feed's folder, interval, and retention live in an expandable row: click the ⚙ on a feed to reveal them without cluttering the list.
Where it all lives
Feed items are stored locally, in the same private index as your reading — but kept apart from it, so a busy morning's feeds never crowd out what you actually read. Your subscriptions sync between your machines; what each machine has already pulled does not. Nothing is summarized until you ask, and nothing leaves your machine except the briefing you request, when you request it.
